Project teaches sustainable development, conservation to residents in protected area. The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) is in the thick of the battle to defend the integrity of Mt. Malindange in Misamis Occidental. Last month, SEARCA assembled hundreds of residents around the protected area to train them on sustainable aquaculture, mangrove rehab and biodiversity conservation. Fishermen, farmers, fishpond operators and members of indigenous peoples attended the series of lectures and training sessions. The capacity-building activities were part of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Ridge to Reef Biodiversity Conservation Project implemented by SEARCA and the WorldFish Center.
