Dendrobium schuetzei Rolfe
Family: ORCHIDACEAE
Scientific Name: Dendrobium schuetzei Rolfe
Conservation Status: Critically Endangered (DAO 2007-01, IUCN Red List of Threatened Species)

 

Description

Inflorescence short; flowers white, labellum with green marking. This species is closely similar to Dendrobium sanderae.

 

Distribution

Rare plant found only as one population in Northeastern Mindanao.

 

Habitat

Found in primary and secondary forests at low altitudes.

 

Use

Utilized as an ornamental plant. The species is over-collected in the wild by local enthusiasts and in demand in the local and international trade.

Mosquito fish seen effective weapon vs dengue

DAGUPAN CITY — One of the best weapons to beat dengue-carrying mosquitoes is swimming under everyone’s noses and is considered by some fishermen as a pest.
