Central Visayas is free from the mango seed and pulp weevils. This is according to researchers from the Department of Agriculture–Provincial Agricultural Technology Coordinating Office (DA-PATCO) Region 7 and Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI).

Using the anti-bacterial assay, the bark extract of Garuga floribunda (bogo) was found to have the highest zone of inhibition against gram-negative bacteria, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and gram-positive bacteria, Staphyloccocus aureus and Bacillus subtilis. Likewise, the bark extract of Trema orientalis L. (hanagdong) also inhibited the growth of S. aureus and B. subtilis.

Laguna Lake passed the level of dissolved oxygen (DO) criterion set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for Class C waters posing no imminent harm to the lake’s aquatic life, primarily the fish population.
